Membership News
NSW/ACT chapter membership for 2009 has grown from last year and includes 7 new members which is fantastic.
Do continue to advertise the benefits of ARNA membership to your colleagues. Membership of ARNA affords us access to valuable education and networking opportunities within our speciality that otherwise would not exist. In addition, we receive the quarterly JARNA and, importantly, our speciality is represented on local and national nursing bodies.
Education Sessions
The NSW/ACT chapter annual conference and AGM took place on 24th July. The theme for the conference was 'diversity in rehabilitation'. A total of 44 delegates attended.
The two key-note speakers were both rehabilitation service users and spoke with passion about their experience of rehabilitation nursing. Frank Spiteri shared his story of burns rehabilitation and Liesl Tesch spoke about her journey from spinal injury to the paralympic basketball team.
The presentation on mental health issues in rehabilitation was very well received, so too the presentation addressing the support needs of aboriginal clients in rehabilitation.
Other topics included the management of spasticity and nutrition in rehabilitation.
