The
Australasian Rehabilitation Nurses Association has funded research to develop
Australias first set of rehabilitation nursing competency standards.
This work, led by Julie Pryor, Associate Director of the Rehabilitation
Nursing Research and Development Unit, was a collaborative venture between
the University of Western Sydney and the Royal Rehabilitation Centre Sydney.
The project refined a set of draft competency standards that were based
upon the systemic investigation of the role of the registered nurses in
rehabilitation in Australia undertaken by Pryor and Smith and further developed
in collaboration with clinical nurses at the Royal Rehabilitation Centre
Sydney. National validation was achieved via distribution of a survey to
all registered nurse members of ARNA and other interested nurses working
in rehabilitation settings.
It is envisaged that the competency standards will be used to guide the
development of practice both at an individual and system level. |
